nia t. evans is a freelance journalist based in New York City. She covers race, politics, and democracy. Her work in print and online can be found in several publications, including Dissent, Prism, Electric Literature, Slate and New York Magazine. She was a founding editorial advisor at Hammer & Hope, a 2023-2024 Mother Jones investigative fellow, and a 2021 fellow at Boston Review.

In a past life, nia was an education advocate and researcher. Her research on dress codes was featured in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History exhibit “Girlhood (It’s Complicated).” She has appeared as a commentator on WNYC’s The Takeaway, DC’s WAMU 88.5, and other public radio outlets.
